The importance of reading books - Personal Development

Books Vs. Blogs

Recently I recorded a video about the importance of reading books. Why? Because although they can be considered boring and archaic in comparison to the sexy modern alternative that is the internet, there is a special place for books in my heart. How about you?

Books have better info in them in my opinion, you just have to find the right books. I’m not saying there aren’t any crap books out there.. I’m sure there are; but even so, it would be a matter of opinion just like anything else. The worlds best books, movies and music all have their critics.

The bottom line is this; if you’re looking to learn something valuable, you’re much better off reading a book than scouring the internet for FREE information. When you pay money, naturally you’ll pay attention and so, you’ll be much more likely to apply what you’ve learned. Not to mention the barrier of entry to book publishing; any Tom, Dick or Harry can publish a blog or their own website, but it takes a certain amount of expertise and credibility to have a book published. Yes there are self published books out there, but generally speaking, the quality stuff is to be found in books.

Another reason why books are great is that they don’t depend on Wifi or batteries. How great is that? If I drop my copy of 50 Shades of Grey in the bathtub it’s not the end of the world is it? (I don’t really own a copy, it was just an example…)

On a serious note, I can’t think of a better way to dive deep into the mind of an expert in your field, or experience the magic of escapism with a great fiction book without the distractions of email and social media notifications. When you read a book, you really ‘feel’ the content (if that makes sense). Can you relate?

Over to you… What are your thoughts? What are your favourite books of all time? What books have literally changed or even saved your life? I’d love to know so comment below!
