I’ve noticed a trend…. people are spending more time on social media, and consuming more video content and podcasts than they do on blogs and standard websites.
Don’t get me wrong i still think websites are important but I’ve noticed that the attention ( which is majorly important if you’re building a brand) is on content that is shared and seen on social media.
I did a little survey on Twitter, and although there were only a handful of responses, the results indicated that it would be easier to gain attention online (especially in a competitive marketplace or niche) by creating entertaining content.

This doesn’t surprise me at all. Social media apps such as Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat are amongst the most used smartphone apps next to email.
Social media is where the eyeballs are and apart from Google this is where your brand has the most potential to be discovered by your ideal customers or your ideal audience.
What can you do to take advantage of this?
You can commit to producing any of the following content for your brand or business:
- Vlogs / short films / how-to-videos
- Live Video Stream (Instagram Stories Live, Facebook Live, Periscope)
- Themed Social Media Content /Microblogging (Instagram posts with rich captions, Medium articles, Twitter threads)
Within that content you’ll want to include a call to action that supports your business goals , but the primary focus should be placed on providing value or entertainment; this helps to get you known, trusted and hopefully liked.
#NEWSFLASH: People don’t want to be sold to or interrupted with your sales pitch
Creating regular consistent content will do wonders for your visibility and your brand. Get creative. Inspire, educate, entertain.
Over to you…
